Tennis pro Jaime Sommers (Lindsay Wagner) suffered a critical injury in a skydiving accident, days before she is due to play against Billie Jean King in Barcelona.
At the insistence of her one-time boyfriend, Steve Austin (Lee Majors) – The Six Million Dollar Man – Jaime’s life is saved by emergency bionic surgery.
Outfitted with bionic legs, a bionic arm and a bionic ear, Jaime led a double life as a school teacher at the Ventura Air Force base in Ojai, California, and as an undercover OSI (Office of Scientific Information) operative.
Among her disguises were those of a nun, a roller-derby queen and a lady wrestler.
Jaime became involved with fellow OSI agent Chris Williams (Christopher Stone) and yearned for a life of her own away from the government and the constant peril of undercover work.
Feeling that she had repaid her debt to the government, Jaime resigned from the OSI but soon realised that her bionics had become a part of her life and returned to the OSI and agreed to take missions on the condition that she would be otherwise free to pursue her life.
When The Bionic Woman made the switch from ABC to NBC in 1977, a bionic German Shepherd dog named Max became Jaime’s new partner and joined in her adventures.
During the series’ last year on TV, bizarre science fiction stories surfaced, and Jaime even had encounters with visitors from outer space!
