China Smith (Dan Duryea) is a daring Irish-American soldier of fortune living in (a low-budget Hollywood facsimile of) Singapore.
China takes what cases he needs to survive, and while he dislikes doing it, he always finds himself handing out freebies – helping innocent people who become involved with unscrupulous characters (sometimes as the result of a case he is investigating for the government).
The 1952 series was filmed in Mexico. A second syndicated series – now titled The New Adventures of China Smith – was produced in 1954 – 1955, this time filmed in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The series was critically savaged but proved popular with viewers.
