Summoned to the bedside of his dying friend, adventurer Slate Shannon (Dane Clark) agrees to become the legal guardian of his friend’s 19-year-old daughter, the beautiful blonde Sailor Duval (Joan Marshall).
Bored with his sophisticated lifestyle, Shannon leaves the United States accompanied by Sailor. She thinks he is wonderful and has romantic inclinations. He thinks she’s a nuisance, but he tolerates her.
The two retreat to Trinidad, where they purchase a hotel (Slate Shannon’s Place) and a 60-foot sloop called the Bold Venture with an all-female crew.
Sailor resides in Room 116 of the hotel (“second floor, left”) and is an expert at fishing (when she and Slate go fishing, it is Sailor who makes the catch. which Slate attributes to her “magic touch for spinning reels”).
Keith Barker (Mark Dana) is the inspector of police; King Moses (Bernie Gozier) is a guitarist who provides music for Slate’s hotel dining room; he also serves as the desk clerk and calls Sailor “Lady Sailor.” Tina (Karen Scott) runs the only dance hall on the island, Tina’s Palace of Fun.
The show was based on the 1951 radio series of the same title, which starred Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.
