Deputy Dawg was a below-average southern lawman (he worked in Mississippi), more concerned with napping than with catching bad guys.
The lazy canine deputy was regularly reprimanded by his human boss, the Sheriff, while his friends Muskie the Muskrat, Ty Coon, and near-sighted Vincent Van Gopher looked on in amusement.
It wasn’t long, however, before the Deputy would revert to his slothful ways and fall fast asleep.
The Deputy Dawg Show was so popular in the 60s that, in 1963, movie theatres were insisting that Terrytoons create episodes of the cartoon for the big screen.
Impressionist Dayton Allen provided most of the characters distinct and amusing voices. Allen would often give the characters the voices of well-known celebrities, adding a layer of hip reality to the cartoon.
