Heaven for Betsy

1 9 5 2 (USA)
26 x 15 minute episodes

This show was inspired by a recurring skit about a newlywed couple on The Frances Langford/Don Ameche Show.

Pete Bell (Jack Lemmon) was an impetuous assistant buyer for the toy department of the Wilmot Department Store in Manhattan. His wife, Betsy (Lemmon’s real-life wife, Cynthia Stone) was a former secretary-turned-homemaker who constantly had to get her impulsive husband out of jams.

Most of the episodes revolved around this newlywed couple’s attempts to adjust to married life on Oak Tree Lane. Being married in real life, the dialogue came very easily between Lemmon and Stone.

Pete’s no-nonsense cigar-smoking boss, Alonzo Wilmot, was played by Cliff Hall.

The 15-minute shows were broadcast live. Sponsors included Pepsodent Toothpaste and Lever Brothers.
