1 9 5 5 – 1 9 5 6 (USA)
7 x 60 minute episodes
Based on the 1942 movie of the same name and debuting on 13 September 1955, this ABC series was one of three rotating elements of Warner Bros. Presents with episodes seen every third week, alternating with Casablanca and Cheyenne.
Ending on 17 January 1956, this was the least popular and shortest-lived of the three productions, with only Cheyenne building a strong long-term viewing audience.
Guest stars included Natalie Wood, Jack Kelly, Alan Ladd and Dennis Hopper.
Episodes also featured a short “behind the cameras” section, featuring a look at Warner’s film production, hosted by Gig Young. Viewers and critics alike objected to the 10-15 minute segment at the end of each week’s presentation devoted to plugging current Warner Bros. movies, and this was eventually dropped.
More than $25,000 worth of antiques were used in the Kings Row sets at Warner Brothers for the series, and many of the props were originally seen in the 1942 feature film.
