Premiering on Thursday 17 February 1955, Fanny Cradock (billed here as Phyllis Cradock) starred in this BBC series performing her unique brand of cookery to a studio audience, accompanied by her life partner, Johnnie.
The show was described by Radio Times thusly; “John and Phyllis Cradock, the bon viveur husband and wife cookery team, present an unusual style of cookery to a studio audience at the Television Theatre”.
“Unusual” in this instance meant a theatrical approach, with Phyllis cooking in evening dress and John, a monocled major, holding forth on wine and generally helping out, commis-style, with more menial kitchen tasks.
The series was produced by Alan Sheath.
With the advent of ITV later in 1955, Fanny and Johnnie moved to the new station for that station’s first cookery programme, Fanny’s Kitchen.
