Well-known celebrities were disguised in elaborate costumes and makeup when they appeared as contestants on Masquerade Party. The costumes were designed to serve as a clue to the panellists, who questioned the celebrities in an attempt to guess their real identities.
When contestants answered the panellists’ questions they used a special microphone which also disguised their voices.
Any prize money won by contestants was donated to their favourite charities.
Screening for nine seasons, Masquerade Party went through six moderators and a total of 19 regular panellists.
Richard Dawson moderated a syndicated revival of the show during the 1974-1975 season, with regular panellists Bill Bixby, Lee Meriwether and Nipsey Russell.
