“Mr District Attorney, champion of the people, defender of truth, guardian of our fundamental rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
This syndicated drama series was based on facts of real crimes from the files of the District Attorney’s office. Each story was seen through the eyes of Paul Garrett, alias Mr District Attorney: “As district attorney for the county, it is my job to prevent crimes as well as solve them. But sometimes you can’t prevent them. Sometimes you can only pick up the trail after the violence has begun.”
Elizabeth Miller (Vicki Vola) was Paul’s secretary. Harrington (Len Doyle) was Paul’s investigator and had been with the DA’s office for 22 years.
The TV series was based on the long-running radio show of the same title, created by Ed Byron.
The 1951 TV series was broadcast live. The later series – debuting in the Summer of 1954 (although it was filmed in the winter of 1953) – saw Hollywood actor David Brian take over the starring role from Jay Jostyn in his first outing on television.
The series was produced by ZIV-TV.
