Person To Person premiered on the CBS network on 2 October 1953 with chain-smoking Edward R Murrow as the host.

The show was an informal video visit to the homes of famous people in every walk of life. Murrow talked with his guests and he and the audience were given a quick tour of their
    homes.

Interviewees included Marilyn Monroe, Louella Parsons, Admiral Chester W Nimitz, Bess and Harry Truman, Rocky Marciano, the Duke of Windsor and Wallis Simpson, Robert Kennedy, Mike Todd and Elizabeth Taylor, Maria Callas, Gypsy Rose Lee and Marlon Brando.

On 2 July 1959, Murrow left the show on a sabbatical. In the fall of 1959, Charles Collingwood became the host during Murrow’s absence.
