Founded by ITN editor Geoffrey Cox, Roving Report featured a relatively youthful Robin Day interrogating personalities abroad.
In 1957, Egypt was still technically at war with Britain following the Suez Crisis, so it was a major coup when Day obtained an exclusive interview with President Nasser of Egypt in the garden of his home just outside Cairo.
Their conversation assumed even greater significance when Nasser leaned towards the camera and invited Britain to reestablish amicable relations with his country.
Other original reporters included George Ffitch, Reginald Bosanquet, Tim Brinton, Huw Thomas and Lynne Reid Banks.
Their 16mm filmed travels took them from America (where the first programme on 19 March 1957 came from the top of the Empire State Building in New York) to Zanzibar.
