Comedian Digby Wolfe moved to the BBC after a falling out over Wolfe at the Door with ITV (who he had moved to after a falling out with the BBC!).
Debuting on Thursday 13 June 1957, this fortnightly series starred Wolfe as a genteel but feckless young man faced with the unpleasant prospect of earning a living.
Each episode showcased his efforts to do so without actually working – such as trying his hand at being a professional footballer (without actually playing) and a racehorse owner, and running a travel bureau.
Lita Roza appeared throughout the series as Wolfe’s girlfriend and Ronnie Corbett played his gentleman’s gentleman. A small combo led by Derek Scott provided the musical background.
