52 x 10 minute episodes
This children’s drama serial from GTV-9 (Australia) followed the exploits of a group of children who constructed their own shantytown in the bush out of packing cases and called it Ten Town.
The “town” had its own hotel, sheriff’s office, post office, bank, fire station and general store, and the storylines ranged from single-episode stories to multi-episode serials.
The kids fought off rival gangs, rode ponies, discovered treasure, staged their own Olympic Games, and foiled spies. In one episode, they even took over a submarine and surfaced it in the middle of Sydney Harbour!
The original episodes – produced by Pacific Film Productions under writer-director Roger Mirams – were re-edited with newly shot footage to become The Ten Again in 1962.
The series was sold to the US, UK and Canada. When shown in England, the title was shortened to simply The Adventures Of The Terrible Ten.
