Emerging from the ashes of Hit Parade, this short-lived music show from the BBC debuted on Monday 6 February 1956 at 9.15 pm.
The show was broadcast from Studio G at the BBC’s Lime Grove Studios, where host Billy Cotton announced the songs with something akin to Churchiliian aggressiveness.
Singers included Dennis Lotis, Shani Wallis, The Kentones and The George Mitchell Singers. The dancers were Gillian Lynne, April Olrich, Terence Theobald and Denny Bettis.
Guests included Max Bygraves, Fess Parker (television’s Davy Crockett), The Beverley Sisters, conductor Alberto Semprini, Larry Adler, Stéphane Grappelli, Ronnie Hilton, Kenny Baker, Bert Weedon and Johnny Brandon.
