This ATV comedy series was written by 26-year-old comedian Digby Wolfe with Richard Waring and Tony Hawes and produced and directed by Alan Tarrant.
Digby – in his first big chance on television – starred as a boy who liked to think he was brave, dashing and irresistible to women.
The Monday night series debuted on 18 June 1956 but was short-lived after Wolfe collapsed at rehearsals in August and doctors ordered him a complete rest. The final show aired on Monday 6 August.
Wolfe returned in June 1957 with a fortnightly series for the BBC entitled Sheep’s Clothing after he asked ATV to tear up his contract with them with nearly six months still to run. The new series featured Wolfe as a genteel young man faced with the unpleasant prospect of earning a living. Each episode showed his efforts to do so without actually working.
