In yet another fine Saint-style action series from ITC, Steve Forrest starred as suave and wealthy Texan rancher and ex-jewel thief, John Mannering, who also worked as an antique dealer and had exclusive establishments in London, Washington and Paris.
More importantly, Mannering also worked for British Intelligence using his trade as a cover.
In his globe-trotting adventures – assigned to him by John Templeton-Green (Colin Gordon) of the Special Branch Diplomatic Service – Mannering enjoyed diplomatic immunity, drove a Jensen C-V8 with the license number BAR 1, and was accompanied by the sexy SBDS Agent Cordelia Winfield (Sue Lloyd).
David Marlowe was sometimes seen as Mannering’s business associate.
The series was loosely based on a character created by John Creasey (writing as Anthony Morton) and spawned two TV features in 1966 and 1968 made from re-edited episodes of the series, entitled ‘Mystery Island’ and ‘The Man In A Looking Glass’ respectively.
