Living in a bed-sit and working as a typist didn’t amount to much for dreamy, disorganised Sheila Ross (Sheila Hancock). She envied the exotic lifestyle of her air stewardess neighbour, Dilys (Dilys Laye), with whom she fought for eligible bachelors (with little success).

When Dilys moved on after the first season, Sheila gained a boyfriend in the form of David (Derek Nimmo), her next door neighbour, but her girly chats continued with the worldly-wise Liz (Hy Hazell), who also lived in the house.

Busy writers Ronald Wolfe and Ronald Chesney – they also had Meet The Wife running at this time – created this sitcom especially for Sheila Hancock, who had served them so handsomely in their famous earlier series The Rag Trade.
