This BBC series – adapted from stories by PG Wodehouse – starred Ralph Richardson as the put-upon Lord Clarence Threepwood, 9th Earl of Emsworth and master of Blandings Castle.
Absent-minded Clarence shared his ancestral seat with his overbearing sister, Lady Constance (Meriel Forbes), his sympathetic butler of 18-years, Beach (Stanley Holloway), head gardener McAllister (Jack Radcliffe) and “The Empress”, his beloved prize sow.
Lord Emsworth’s attempts at a placid existence were continually shattered.
Written by John Chapman and produced by Michael Mills, the six-part series aired on Friday evenings at 7.30 pm and attracted a viewing audience of over 7 million.
All episodes are now believed lost.
