1 9 6 1 – 1 9 6 2 (USA)
26 x 25 minute episodes
This black and white cartoon series was created (and voiced) for TV by Charles Correll and Freeman Gosden, who had achieved fame as Amos and Andy on the radio.
With their original blackface characters falling out of fashion, Calvin and the Colonel attempted to resurrect their popular characters for television in the guise of a sneaky, double-dealing Southern real estate agent fox (Colonel Montgomery J. Klaxon) and his dim-witted bear sidekick (Calvin Burnside).
The Colonel shared an apartment with his wife, Maggie Belle (Virginia Gregg) and her widowed sister Sue (Beatrice Kay). He was advised by his weasel lawyer, Judge Oliver Wendell Clutch (Paul Frees).
The show was unsuccessful, and Gosden and Correll retired after the failure of the cartoon.
