30 x 30 minute episodes
Cara Williams had spent two wacky seasons as Gladys Porter on Pete and Gladys before starring here in her own eponymous sitcom.
Here, she was the beautiful but scatterbrained file clerk for Fenwick Diversified Industries, Incorporated – a company which didn’t allow employees to be married to one another.
Cara, though, was married to the company’s efficiency expert Frank Bridges (Frank Aletter) and so called herself Cara Wilton at work to disguise the fact they were married.
Comedic situations arose from the couple’s attempts to keep their married status from their boss Damon Burkhardt (Paul Reed).
The series altered its format mid-season as Cara finally divulged her secret to the boss while explaining that married couples were keeping Fenwick Diversified afloat. Both she and Frank got to keep their jobs.
Also in the cast were Jeanne Arnold as Mr Burkhardt’s secretary Mary Hammilmeyer; Reta Shaw as Mrs Burkhardt; and Jack Sheldon as their hip-talking jazz musician neighbour and friend Fletcher Kincaid.
Sponsors of the show included General Foods, and Procter and Gamble.
