Colonel Trumper’s Private War first screened on Friday 15 September 1961. The Granada series – the first British attempt at a sitcom about World War II – was short-lived with only six episodes airing before the show’s demise in October.
British Counter-Intelligence officer Colonel Basil Trumper (Dennis Price) prepared his unit each week at a highly secret spy school, before leading them on an undercover mission in Europe.
The unit was accompanied by Polish scientist Pan Malkov (Warren Mitchell), who Trumper’s unit had rescued from behind Jerry lines.
