This new adaptation of the Dickens classic was turned into a BBC1 Sunday afternoon serial by Vincent Tilsley.
Young Christopher Guard was very good as the young David Copperfield, with Ian McKellen taking on the role as the adult Copperfield. The strong cast included Flora Robson, Bill Fraser, Hannah Gordon, Colin Jeavons and Joss Ackland.
The largely studio-bound production was widely praised and reinforced once again the flair the BBC have for dramatising the classics.
