Dig We Must was produced by the Australian ABC network (Channel 2) and hosted by Bobby & Laurie (Bobby Bright and Laurie Allen) on Friday evenings.

The 30-minute show aimed at teenagers debuted at 6.25 pm on Friday 26 August 1966 (but often aired at 7.30) and was described at the time as “a cross between Bandstand and It’s All Happening.”

The show featured a 14-piece band and resident dance troupe, The Beat Girls (pictured above) – whose gyrations were described by The Age newspaper in Melbourne at the time as “crude, unsightly and wanton”.

Unfortunately, the show’s “young adult” trappings turned teenagers off the show and away from Bobby & Laurie (who split up in February 1967).
