Produced by ABC and shown on ITV across most of the country in the popular early Saturday evening slot, Doddy’s Music Box was a very slick, punchy mix of comedy and music, hosted by Liverpudlian comedian (and singer) Ken Dodd.
Dodd’s musical guests ranged from Wayne Fontana, Herman’s Hermits, Freddie and The Dreamers, The Searchers, Dusty Springfield and Billy Fury to Paul Jones and The Love Affair, with family-balance provided by the likes of Russ Conway and Rosemary Squires.
The show also saw future Radio 1 presenter David Hamilton – who Dodd nicknamed “Diddy” – employed as a straight man.
Music for the show was provided by Bob Sharples and the ABC Television Showband with the Mike Sammes Singers.
