34 x 30 minute episodes
Attorney Stanley Banks (Leon Ames, pictured above right) was not quite ready to accept the decision of his only daughter Kay (Myrna Fahey, pictured above left) when she announced that she was engaged to Buckley Dunston (Burt Metcalfe).
Despite the enthusiasm of his wife, Ellie (Ruth Warrick), his son, Tommy (Rickie Sorensen) and almost everyone else, Stanley was not happy about it at all.
Episodes of this CBS series involved Stanley’s tribulations at getting used to his prospective son-in-law and the son-in-law’s parents (Ransom Sherman and Lurene Tuttle), the planning and carrying out of the wedding, and learning to live without Kay around.
The newlyweds established a home in a small apartment at 324 Adams Street and, shortly before the series ended, became the parents of a boy they named Stanley Banks Dunston.
Leon worked at the Manhattan firm of Williston and Banks, attorneys-at-law. Also in the cast, were Irene Tedrow as Stanley’s secretary Miss Bellamy, and Ruby Dandridge as the Banks’ housekeeper, Delilah.
The series was based on the films Father of the Bride (1950) and Father’s Little Dividend (1951). Early episodes of the show featured animated opening credits with a cartoon cupid holding a magic wand, but later episodes had the entire cast gathered on the Banks’ staircase at 24 Maple Drive, Fairview Manor, Connecticut.
Sponsors of the show included Campbell’s Soup and General Mills.
