Country music star Jimmy Dean hosted this weekly ABC series of music, songs and comedy with a country and western accent with help from his sidekick, Rowlf – a puppet dog who would go on to international fame as one of Jim Henson’s Muppets.

Dean’s guests included Molly Bee, Al Martino, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Jim Reeves, Bobby Vinton, Milton Berle, Rich Little, Patty Duke, Hank Williams, Chet Atkins, Tex Williams, Sheb Wooley, The Jordanaires, Bobby Rydell, Don Adams, George Jones, Teresa Brewer, The Continentals, Rosemary Clooney, Forrest Tucker, Eydie Gormé, Pearl Bailey, Patti Page, Charlie Rich, Earl Scruggs, Lester Flatt, Tex Ritter, Johnny Tillotson, Art Carney, Roy Acuff, Red Buttons, Julie Rogers, Leroy VanDyke, Bill Cosby, The Andrews Sisters, Porter Wagoner, Charlie Callas and The Nashville All-Stars.

The series, produced by Bob Banner, ran from 19 September 1963 to 1 April 1966.

Jimmy Dean died on 13 June 2010, aged 81.
