This rather idealistic Bible-based holiday travelogue-with-a-message featured newlywed English couple Anne (Anne Lawson) and John (John Bonney) – a water engineer and irrigation expert with the United Nations – as they travelled through a conveniently televisual Holy Land.
Airing in the early evening religious slot on Sundays, the ABC TV programme followed Anne and John between Nazareth, the Sea of Galilee and the Tomb of King David, as they discovered (and resolved) strong spiritual conflict in their relationship – John was a sceptic, Anne was profoundly religious – while taking in the picture-postcard scenes of New Testament ruins, hills and fig trees.
In the first series, direct speech was avoided so audio narration could be added in any language and the series sold overseas. Scripted dialogue was introduced in the second series.
The series was produced for ABC by AB-Pathe and filmed in colour for the American TV market.
