1 9 6 0 – 1 9 6 1 (USA)
17 x 30 minute episodes
This NBC series was set in the muddy gold mining camps of Skagway, Alaska, during the 1890s.
Stories followed the exploits of adventurer Mike Halliday (Ralph Taeger) as he struggled to find gold in the beautiful but dangerous Ice Palace of the Northland.
Peripheral storylines involved Kathy O’Hara (Mari Blanchard) – the daughter of a sea captain – as she attempted to maintain an honest hotel (the Golden Nugget) in a lawless territory.
Mike lived in Room 2 of the hotel.
James Coburn appeared in a number of episodes as ingenious con artist Jefferson Durain, who had a beautiful assistant called Goldie (Joi Lansing).
The town’s saloon was the Monte Carlo Gambling Hall, and the Circuit Queen was the riverboat that serviced the area.
The series was based on the book The Klondike Fever by Pierre Berton.
In 1961, Taeger and Coburn switched in mid-season to another NBC show for the same sponsor – the series was Acapulco.
