6 x 25 minute episodes
Tyne Tees Television produced this short series starring Cliff Richard in the title role.
In each episode, Johnny would learn a valuable life lesson the hard way (episodes included “Johnny Faces Facts” and “Johnny Up the Creek”) and sing some songs, backed by The Settlers.
Johnny had three girlfriends during the show – each lasted two episodes: Carol (Settlers’ vocalist Cindy kent) was very serious and wanted to get married and settle down; Michelle (Una Stubbs) was not very nice and wanted to spend all his money, and Janet (played by Lynda Marchal – better known as writer Lynda La Plante) was the nice girl who got him in the end.
Johnny’s father was played by William Hartnell.
The series was screened in the Sunday evening religious slot and each of the episodes was based on one of Jesus’ parables – to teach young people how to deal with some of life’s problems and also to look to Christianity for answers.
