18 x 60 minute episodes
Young Terry Bowen (former Dennis The Menace, Jay North) arrives in Bombay, India from Montana in America to join his father, great white hunter Hugh Bowen.
At the American Counsel, Terry learns that his father was lost on a tiger hunt and is presumed dead – killed by a man-eating tiger.
Believing that no animal can kill his father, Terry decides to begin his own search for him – but the authorities will not permit Terry to do so and want to send him back to the US.
While being taken into custody, Terry manages to escape. He hides on a freight train and meets Raji (Sajid Khan) – an orphaned Indian boy who was left alone in the world when a flood destroyed his village – and his pet elephant, Maya.
When Raji learned that Maya did not legally belong to him and was to be shipped to the desert for a lifetime of hard labour, he and Maya fled – and now he is wanted by the police for stealing the elephant.
Stories relate the adventures of two fourteen-year-old boys who join forces to help each other complete their self-imposed missions: Terry to find his missing father; Raji to return Maya to the land of her birth and freedom.
This hour-long Saturday night NBC series was a follow-up to the 1966 feature film of the same name and reunited the film’s original co-stars North and Khan.
