This NBC series was a curious mixture of live drama and filmed episodes drawn from other American anthology series.
The premise of the series was character studies of people on the edge of fear and cornered by some life-threatening obstacle.
A number of the ‘live’ tales were based on short stories by popular supernatural and mystery writers, while the filmed episodes – which came from shows like General Electric Theater, Studio 57 and Pepsi Cola Playhouse – were all original screenplays which were included because they utilised the same elements of emotional crisis.
On occasions, Moment of Fear would be divided into two segments separated by commercials – the first a story with a twist in the tail and the second an extract from a horror or mystery movie. Alfred Hitchcock appeared on the series on several occasions to promote his pictures.
Among the actors who were featured in the series were Charles Bronson, William Shatner and Burgess Meredith.
