1 9 6 7 – 1 9 6 9 (USA)
49 x 30 minute episodes
A superior 1960s drama about three detectives with the 27th Precinct of the NYPD, with real-life New York locations and hand-held cameras adding realism to episodes that were based on actual cases.
Jack Warden was Lieutenant Mike Haines, the older, tougher and more experienced veteran detective who believed in going by the book.
Frank Converse played Detective Johnny Corso, the younger, less-experienced cop who was a bit impetuous yet still respectful
of Mike’s beliefs.
Robert Hooks was Detective Jeff Ward, an African American who was dedicated to his job and believed in protocol. Working with Johnny often strained that belief as he would set the book of rules aside to collar a suspect in a crime.
The ABC show ran from the fall of 1967 to the fall of 1969. Among those who made guest appearances were Al Pacino, Jill Clayburgh, James Earl Jones, Charles Grodin, William Devane, Roy Schneider, Sylvia Miles and Barry Morse.
