Home TV by Decade TV Shows - 1960s Origami

1 9 6 8 – 1 9 7 1 (UK)
32 x 15 minute episodes

This 15-minute series for children from Yorkshire Television was presented by magician Robert Harbin and demonstrated the ancient art of origami (cutting and folding paper).

Each week, Harbin demonstrated how to make paper objects such as birds and animals and flowers.

Harbin (a South African) was born on 12 February 1909 and died in January 1978

The show also featured a “Japanese” girl – who was, in fact, Leeds actress Anita Kay in a wig and kimono with lots of makeup (pictured below in character and au naturel).

Origami was another of producer Jess Yates’ programmes.
