This series of self-contained plays produced under a theme title presented seven stories, with each one illustrating one sin: Pride, Gluttony, Sloth, Avarice, Lust, Envy and Wrath.
Treatments varied from comedy to drama and the identity of the vice was not revealed until the final credits.
Contributing writers included Alun Falconer (‘A Lion in His Way’) and Joe Orton (‘The Erpingham Camp’).
The cast of the various stories included Julia Foster, Anna Massey, Adam Faith, Nigel Stock, Richard O’Sullivan, Barry Foster, Ronald Lacey, Joan Sanderson, Sally Nesbitt and Derek Francis.
Producer Peter Willes (Head of Plays at Rediffusion) followed up with Seven Deadly Virtues in 1967, substituting virtues for vices in a similar seven-part production. This drama package also featured plays by Bill Naughton (‘It’s Your Move’) and Joe Orton (‘The Good and Faithful Servant’).
