This brash new rival for Channel Nine’s long-running Bandstand was produced by the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) and hosted by Jeff Phillips (pictured above).

The show was produced by Adventure Island mastermind Godfrey Philipp, tackling his first pop music series since the Go!! show.

The show claimed to be the most expensive of its type ever produced and featured a lineup of guest artists including Normie Rowe, Little Pattie, Ronnie Burns, Allison Durbin, The Master’s Apprentices, John Farnham, Bev Harrell, and Yvonne Barrett.

The series premiered on Sunday 28 September 1969 in Perth, Sydney, Brisbane and Hobart. It was aired in Adelaide on Tuesday 30 September and in Melbourne on Thursday 2 October.
