This spin-off from The Mask Of Janus remodelled the original BBC series to focus on the “front line” of the cut-and-thrust world of espionage rather than the back-room boys featured in the original eleven episodes.
The series was still based in the fictional European country of Amalia, but the action branched out to Britain and the US in the pursuit of defecting agents and official secrets and there was a greater emphasis on action and adventure rather than the covert activities of espionage operatives behind the scenes.
The Janus cast was reduced to concentrate on the two primary spies from the original series – Richard Cadell (Dinsdale Landen) and Anthony Kelly (Simon Oates) – with occasional support from two of the other original characters, Arthur Letby (Hamilton Dyce) and Russian agent Copic (Peter Arne).
