This NBC sitcom featured Paul Morgan (Tab Hunter), a swinging young bachelor who had made a living out of his lifestyle.
As a cartoonist for Comics, Inc., he was the creator of the strip ‘Bachelor-at-Large’ which detailed the adventures of an amorous young man living the good life in Southern California.
The strip read almost like a diary – which it was – of the romantic exploits of its author.
Paul’s boss, John Larsen (Jerome Cowan), never ceased to be amazed by the situations into which his prize cartoonist got himself. Paul’s best friend was the wealthy, eligible, and stingy Peter Fairfield III (Richard Erdman), a fashion plate and car enthusiast who was regularly mixed up in Paul’s romantic adventures.
Keeping Paul’s Malibu Beach house in order was his housekeeper, Thelma (Reta Shaw), who did not approve of his never-ending stream of beautiful women.
Guests on the show during its 12-month run included Jackie Coogan, Norman Fell, Joe Flynn, Nancy Walker, Gena Rowlands, Suzanne Pleshette, Tuesday Weld, Elizabeth Montgomery and Mary Tyler Moore.
The Tab Hunter Show aired on Sunday nights at 8:30 pm (opposite The Ed Sullivan Show) between September 1960 and September 1961. Sponsors included Westclox, Newport Filter Cigarettes and Chrysler.
