Fresh from his success in Hancock’s Half Hour and Citizen James, Sid James played Sid Stone – a London cabbie who gets involved in the day-to-day problems of his fares and his fellow drivers.
Sid was an owner/driver who – when not dealing with other people’s problems – dealt with those of his partner Fred Cuddell (Bill Owen, later of Last Of The Summer Wine) or young driver Terry Mills (Ray Brooks), with whom Sid shared a flat in an old converted house.
The series was the work of writers Harry Driver and Jack Rosenthal.
The twelve 50-minute episodes were an uneven mix of drama and comedy that did not prove successful in the audience ratings.
