1 9 6 0 – 1 9 6 2 (USA)
67 x 50 minute episodes
Hosted by famous horror movie star Boris Karloff at his sinister best, this 50-minute series devoted to horror stories started out as a Hitchcock imitation but provided adaptations of tales by a group of the best contemporary writers in the genre, stylishly filmed in black and white and aired on NBC.
Generally, lesser-known actors and actresses appeared in most of the productions, which bore such evocative titles as “Parasite Mansions,” “The Terror in Teakwood,” “Pigeons from Hell,” and “The Premature Burial.”
Among the bigger stars who appeared in the series were Leslie Nielsen, William Shatner, Robert Vaughn, Ray Milland, John Carradine, Rip Torn, Ursula Andress, Richard Chamberlain, Elizabeth Montgomery, Marlo Thomas and Mary Tyler Moore.
Not to be confused with the 1970s British series of the same name.
