Baggy Pants was a cartoon hobo cat based on Charlie Chaplin’s famous tramp. Like The Pink Panther, Baggy Pants was presented in silent pantomime.
The Nitwits appeared in a separate section of the show and were based on characters from Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In.
The voices were supplied by Laugh-In regulars Ruth Buzzi and Arte Johnson as retired not-so-super superhero Tyrone (Johnson) and his long-suffering and nagging hairnet-wearing wife Gladys (Buzzi).
Tyrone -whose code name was Agony Nine – was able to fly with the help of his cane Elmo, which could bounce like a coil.
Together the pair went into action to fight unspeakable foes (a woman in a chicken suit, a moving blob of water etc), but Gladys usually saved the day.
