As the name implied, Celebrity Bowling featured pairs of stars competing in a 10-frame game to win money for studio audience members.
In its first year, the entire 26 shows were taped over a three-day weekend in August, with similarly vigorous shooting schedules employed in later seasons.
The bowling lanes were installed inside the studios of KTTV (Channel 11) in Los Angeles.
Celebrity bowlers included Sammy Davis Jr, Bob Newhart, William Shatner, Adam West, Dick Martin, Ruth Buzzi, Ernest Borgnine, Richard Dawson, Cesar Romero, Frank Gorshin, Don Adams, Ed Asner, Lloyd Bridges, Loretta Swit, Trini López, Leslie Nielsen, Bobby Darin, Sid Caesar, Frankie Avalon, Steve Allen, Angie Dickinson, Michael Douglas, Larry Storch, Jimmie Walker, Telly Savalas and Brady Bunch stars Maureen McCormick, Barry Williams, Eve Plumb and Chris Knight.
After a near-decade hiatus, the show returned briefly in 1987 as The New Celebrity Bowling, with Jed Allan back at the helm and 26 shows taped over five days.
