Officers Don Burdick (Jim McMullan) and Gil Foley (Dirk Benedict) battled crime in a major city in Southern California from the air. They were chopper pilots who aided officers on the ground with airborne surveillance or by assisting in chases.
Mitch (Lou Frizzell) was Gil and Don’s crusty mechanic, while the two men received their orders from Captain McKeegan (Ted Hartley).
Each half-hour episode cost about $140,000 to produce. The average half-hour show costs about $90,000. What ran the price tag up was needing two chopper pilots, two helicopters, and having to pay the city of Los Angeles various fees.
The director of each episode was given stunt pay wages because he had to fly in a helicopter to direct all the action.
