Handsome James Franciscus was Dr Benjamin R. Elliot, a successful New York City doctor who – after years of feeling unfulfilled – decided to leave his job as a staff doctor at Bellevue Hospital, drop out of the big city rat race, and take on a new job as the only doctor in Gideon, in the Alora Valley in the backwoods of Southern Colorado.
Most of his house calls had to be made via plane or four-wheel drive vehicles as his practice covered over 600 square miles.
Neva Patterson was Mags Brimble, the widow of the former town’s doctor who became Elliot’s landlady and helper.
Noah Beery was Barney Weeks, the owner of the town’s general store and Bo Hopkins played Eldred McCoy, a bush pilot.
This ABC medical drama series ran from 10 October 1973 to 14 August 1974.
