Veterinarian Dr John Dolittle (voiced by Bob Holt) possessed the ability to talk to and understand animals.

This animated NBC series from the studios of DePatie-Freleng followed Dolittle and his 14-year-old ward Tommy Stubbins (voiced by Hal Smith) on their world travels and their attempts to thwart the evil Sam Scurvy (voiced by Lennie Weinrib), a villain bent on learning the secret of communicating with animals so he can use them to help him achieve world dominance.

Dolittle was frequently assisted by a rock & roll group called The Grasshoppers.
