This LWT show for kids starred Nanette Newman (the full title was Nanette Newman’s Fun Food Factory) assisted by a bunch of young sprogs from the Anna Scher Theatre School in Islington – several of whom went on to become well-known faces in British television, including Jesse Birdsall.
It was basically a cookery show for kids with recipes from Nanette’s own cookbooks for kids, delivered in her plummy accent and a slightly bossy, condescending and moralistic tone (the kitchen was plastered with “Factory Rules” and there was a “Danger” sign in the kitchen which flashed and rang a loud alarm bell whenever the kids touched a knife, for example).
Celebrities – including Lynsey de Paul, Alvin Stardust, Sally Thomsett and Dickie Davies (?!) – turned up at the end of the show to sample the delights that Nanette and the sprogs had just whipped up.
