The 30-foot purple gorilla with a childlike personality had originally appeared as a regular character on The New Tom & Jerry Show (1975 – 1977).
Grape Ape was accompanied by his fast-talking beagle buddy, a carnival hustler answering to the unlikely moniker of Beegle Beagle (or “Beegley Beagley”) as GA lovingly called him.
Despite his massive proportions initially frightening everyone they come across, Grape Ape and Beegle stuck around long enough to help out a town in trouble before moving on to the next location in (and on) their little yellow van.
