Harriet Preston (Pauline Yates) watches her ex-husband Tom (William Russell) leave the divorce court with Sue, the glamorous young model who has shattered their marriage (Valerie Ost).
So begins a twice-weekly daytime serial from Thames Television about what a middle-aged woman makes of sudden, unexpected and unwanted freedom.
On the one hand, her 20-year marriage has left her with alimony and a house in Esher. On the other, she has memories . . . an 18-year-old daughter, and – despite her bitterness – a soft spot for Tom.
Harriet’s Back in Town debuted on 17 October 1972.
