This short-lived Tuesday night Aussie comedy series from the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) starred Noni Hazlehurst, Chris Haywood, Robyn Moase and Terry Bader in a series of sketches in the vein of At Last The 1948 Show or Laugh-In (though it was not as slick as either).
In one sketch, Noni Hazlehurst played a young girl going to be picked up (literally) by her young man – a King Kong character. The joke was extended and King Kong turned into Bing Kong, singing Chattanooga Choo Choo while shaking a train.
Not even the ABC institution Countdown was spared as it gained a biblical theme and brought Moses and the Bullrushettes and Judas Iscariot to the rock and roll stage.
Ita Buttrose, the publisher of the Australian Women’s Weekly was sent up with an accurate portrayal by Robyn Moase.
The acting was fine, but the writing was poor – even though ten writers were listed in the credits. Geoffrey Atherden was the script editor.
