This short-lived comedy series from LWT starred Peter Butterworth as Ernest Tanner and Peter Jones as Sidney Rochester, two down-at-heel buskers working the streets of London.

Ernest is a second-rate escapologist while Sidney assists and collects the coins while Ernest is performing.

The two men share a dank basement flat and eat in a seedy cafe run by Archie (Meredith Edwards).

The LWT series originated as an episode of the 1968 series The Ronnie Barker Playhouse in which Ronnie Barker played Ernest and Richard O’Sullivan played Sidney.

Another attempt was made at producing the series as The Incredible Mister Tanner in 1981, with George and Mildred stars Brian Murphy and Roy Kinnear.
