This unpretentious little sitcom from London Weekend Television was pleasant, unobjectionable and – alas- quite unmemorable.
It concerned newly engaged couple June Dent (Elaine Donnely) and David Mason (Anthony O’Donnell), and Christopher Wood provided some mildly amusing dialogue, but the single twist to the situation (they only got engaged so they would be allowed to go on holiday together) wasn’t strong enough to sustain 13 episodes.
There was a distinct lack of any real delineation of character or individuality in the protagonists. There was the DIY enthusiast whose imperfectly constructed creations provided the cue for some very heavy-handed slapstick that didn’t really come off.
Maggie Jones brought some life to the hero’s mother, and Pauline Quirke was good as June’s friend, Carole.
